The Philippines are in for a big shock! In mid-July, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) issued a warning on the market forfinasteride() to be used in treating male pattern baldness (MPB) in men and women, not only because of the high cost of the drug, but also because of the possibility of side effects.
A new study on the effectiveness of finasteride (the active ingredient of Propecia®), an FDA-approved drug, for the treatment of MPB in men and women, is presented at the annual meeting of the American Hair Loss Association, which is held in San Antonio, Texas. The study, published in theJournal of the American Academy of Dermatologyin November in the journalJAMA Dermatology, looks at the effectiveness of finasteride in treating MPB.
Finasteride, marketed as Propecia® (finasteride 1 mg), is the only FDA-approved drug in the world for the treatment of MPB. Since its approval in 1999, Propecia® has been the only FDA-approved drug for the treatment of MPB in the United States. It is also the only drug that is approved by the U. S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to treat male pattern baldness (androgenetic alopecia) androgenetic alopecia (AGA).
The American Academy of Dermatology (AAD) says that finasteride, marketed as Propecia®, can help stop hair loss in men and women who suffer from MPB.
In fact, a of the study, published in thefound thathad an effect of up to 1.5 times more likely to stop hair loss in men than in women, the study authors write. It’s not clear yet how the drug will affect women, but the study suggests that women with MPB have a greater chance of getting hair transplants.
The study is the first to evaluate the effectiveness of finasteride in treating male pattern baldness in the U. and other countries.
Finasteride, which is also marketed as Propecia® (finasteride 1 mg), is approved in the U. for the treatment of adult male pattern baldness and AGA. It has been available to men since 1997 and is the only FDA-approved drug for the treatment of MPB. Finasteride has not been used by women, but the medication has been available in both the U. and Canada for some time.
In the study, a of the study’s authors found that finasteride was effective in treating MPB in men and women, and the effect was more pronounced in women than in men. It may be possible that the medication is more effective in women, but the authors of the study say that this is not a likely possibility.
“While the study has not been designed to evaluate the effectiveness of finasteride, it is important to note that the drug has been shown to be effective in treating MPB in men and women,” the study authors write. “Further, this study is unique in that it examined the effects of finasteride only once in the entire life of the patient, whereas women were only tested in the early stages of the disease.”
“A recent study of the efficacy of finasteride in treating MPB in men and women found that the use of the drug at the onset of balding resulted in an improvement in hair density and an improvement in the appearance of hair in the crown area, while finasteride at the same time was less effective in reducing the size of hair follicles,” the study authors conclude.
The study authors advise that women with MPB may benefit from the drug’s effectiveness in managing their condition.
